Skateboarding is at an interesting crossroads, its longtime history and DIY mentality and structure built only by those that were dedicated enough to keep skating throughout the years of its not so popularity and borderline illegality has been recently modified, prettied up and made acceptable to the masses by larger companies who have the intention of the sport become equally as lucrative as any of the other sports that those companies have long supported. As these actions have affected the industry in some positive ways, I.E. more city parks, decreased liability for business owners leading to less of a crackdown on skateboards on private property, not everyone is happy with the total affect. Skateboarding becoming more "socially acceptable" has led to an influx of skateboarders that might have pursued a different sport even just a few years ago, this influx has filled skateparks and increased the amount of skateboarders all sharing the same dream of MTV type fame from competitive skateboarding. The flood of Amateur skateboard video parts have considerably raised the bar and reset the standard of what "good" skateboarding really is. During this time companies are flooded with sponsor requests and videos while at the same time their promo and "flow" budgets are being slashed due to a rocky economy and a decline in core shops leaving dedicated skateboarders lost in the shuffle and without the support of companies to keep boards and shoes on their feet. This is where BETA comes in, our company is skater owned and operated and our goal is to create a pedestal for skateboarders with incredible talent that just cant seem to break into the industry regardless of their accomplishments or proven ability. We aim to offer the stepping stone needed to allow these skateboarders to be seen whether it is just being able to travel and film or tour and compete. If our team riders are given the opportunity at any time to further their career for the better we will stand behind them and take pride in the fact that we are able to help them achieve their goals.
